This course seeks to meet or exceed the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading (KPS) set forth by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and the accreditation and certification requirements of The Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).
Who should take this course?
Typically, the Certified Dyslexia Specialist provides targeted reading instruction and support to individual and small groups of students with complex reading and writing profiles. They have completed extensive supervised practicum experiences dedicated to advancing the literacy profiles of students with Specific Learning Disabilities, including dyslexia, and are able to serve students who are at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of reading, spelling, and writing instruction.

Program of Study
45 hours focusing on the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading (KPS)
Practicum & Seminar
45 hours focusing on delivering structured literacy lessons based on the principles of The Orton Gillingham Approach, assessment, progress monitoring, comprehension and writting-strand skills (vocabulary, comprehension, written expression, written response)
45 hours of teaching students with 3 Formal Lesson Observations/Conferences with write-up
45 hours of teaching students with 3 Formal Lesson Observations/Conferences with write-up

Cost
The cost of the Dyslexia Specialist Certification Course is $2,800
